2017 Canadian Photography Workshops


In 2017, Canada will be celebrating 150 years since our Confederation. 

In anticipation of this historic milestone, Northof49Photography is putting together a few once in a lifetime adventures for photographers that want to see the beauty that Canada has to offer the world.

Snowy Owl Migration Workshop in Canada

The 2017 Aurora Hunt

Dates: Workshop is March 4 to March 8, 2017

Introduction:  Join us up near the arctic circle in one of best spots in the world to photograph the northern lights, Yellowknife. Here is where the skies present the dancing lights, and the trees and landscapes that frame your images are endless.






The Best of Nova Scotia

Workshop #1 is June 11 to June 17, 2017, Workshop #2 is June 18 to June 24, 2017

Introduction:  With more lighthouses per square mile of any coastline in North America, the lighthouse route in Nova Scotia offers the photographer an abundance of lighthouses and small east coast fishing villages to capture. From the famous harbor front in Halifax, to Peggy's Cove, and Lunenburg and the whales, the photo ops are iconic.

The Best Of Newfoundland

Workshop - June 18, to June 25, 2017

Introduction:  Join us on the east coast of Canada as we track down icebergs on their journey south, migratory whales that are on their journey north, and timeless lighthouses throughout the pristine landscapes along the northern coastline of Newfoundland.






Common Loon Retreat

Dates:  June, July and August of 2017

Introduction:  Come spend some time with usin the Kawarthas, an area positioned one and a half hours north east of Toronto, where both water and land are equally impressive. Northern Gannets Photography Workshop

Workshop #1 is July 20 to July 22, 2017, Workshop #2 is July 23 to July 25, 2017

Instructors: Len Silvester and Chris Pepper



Introduction: Come join us in Canada for three days and four nights at the largest Northern Gannet colony in the world. Our destination is Bonaventure Island, and is home to more than 55,000 nesting pairs of Northern Gannets. National Geographic Traveler Magazine ranks the area of Gaspé the number three tourism destinations in the world.

Vancouver Island Workshop

Dates: August 6th, 2017 to August 12th, 2017

Introduction: Join us as we travels to the extreme west coast of British Columbia. We are headed to Vancouver Island to capture some of Canada's most pristine landscapes, whales and seascapes during a time of year when the morning fog creates a mysterious aura.

BC Grizzly workshop with Aurora Trek in Yukon

Dates: August 17, 2017 to August 26, 2017

Instructors: Kevin Allen Pepper and Andy Williams



Introduction: This ultimate 10 day and 9 night nature adventure is perfect for any wildlife and nature enthusiast! Our destination, a remote bear camp only accessible by helicopter deep inside the BC wilderness. From there we head north for to photograph the northern lights in the Yukon.

Spirit Bear Photo Tour

Dates: August 20, 2017 to August 25, 2017

Instructors: Chris Pepper



Introduction: In August of 2011 National Geographic Magazine referred to British Columbia's Great Bear Rain forest as "The Wildest Place in North America". They were right, the Great Bear Rain forest of British Columbia is the largest piece of intact temperate rain forest left on the plant, and has the most sought after animals on the planet to photograph






Endless Landscapes and Northern Lights in Yukon

August 27th to September 3rd, 2017

Instructors: Kevin Allen Pepper



Introduction:  This 8 day 7 night trip is designed to give you the opportunity to photograph all the diversity that the Yukon has to offer. We will cover the area around Whitehorse, Klaune National Park and up onto the Dempster Highway. You will be shooting mountain landscapes, macro images of fall foliage, travel type photography of historical streetscapes, the wildlife, northern lights and other long exposure night photography.






Photograph Canada's largest herd of Bison

Dates:  September 18 to September 22, 2017

Instructors: Chris Pepper and Len Silvester if we get more than six attendees.



Introduction: This is a true Northern Canada Safari on the Wild West Side of Prince Albert National Park. In addition to viewing the free ranging bison, you may also encounter wolves, elk, moose, deer, bears and countless birds and waterfowl.

Yukon Winter Wonderland

Dates: Workshop is November 10 to November 17, 2017

Instructors: Kevin Allen Pepper and Lisa Langell



Join Kevin Pepper and Lisa Langell on our annual landscape photography adventure workshop! An amazing wilderness adventure that will take you back to the early days of transportation by dog sled and snowmobile. You will spend your days mushing on the training grounds of many a quest musher and it will take you winding through some of the most spectacular wilderness in the Yukon.
